Have you ever read a book, but when you got the juicy part - you know, the ~love~ scene - you ended up making a face like you just smelled a stinky shoe because the scene was too cringey?
Why is it so hard to write a love scene that isn't awkward or clunky? Maybe because those scenes are so incredibly personal. But, that can be used to our advantage! After all, that's why readers love books - they tap into the protagonist's mind as though they're living vicariously through the character.
But, still, there's just something about writing a love scene that seems to trip writers up.
How can writers write love scenes that readers want to read, that they get swept up in? Believe me, writers, there is a way to write a love scenes that's lovely, not cringey. You just need to do two things.
On this Valentine's Day edition of the podcast, I want to share with you two important elements that writers often leave out when writing a love scene. Without these two elements, those intimate moments can feel kind of gross. If those moments focus too much on the physical descriptions, you might as well be writing a biology book. But, when you add in these two elements, you can take your love scene from lacking to lovely.
The two elements are: emotion and setting. How do these two elements enhance love scenes? Listen to this ten-minute episode to find out!
