Seven (More) Books to Make You Feel Like You're in Italy

Updated: Jan 18, 2023

Few countries have the power to make a girl swoon simply by hearing the name of it, but Italy is one of them. And, I mean, duh. The gondola rides along the river, the sun-drenched piazzas, the food, MY GOD THE FOOD.

My debut book Spaghetti Friendship: A Reunion in Rome will transport you to the Eternal City when it's released this fall, but in the meantime, check out these other books that take place in paradise-on-earth. (And make sure to peruse these other titles that will transport you to Italy, too!)

1. My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

If Naples is where you want to go, this four-book series will not disappoint. Also an HBO Max series, My Brilliant Friend is the first book where readers are introduced to two girls: Elena and Lila. Their lifelong friendship is portrayed against the gritty backdrop of Naples, and it will mesmerize you.

2. A Match Made in Venice by Leonie Mack

If Venice is calling you, check out this romance read. The single Didi York heads to Venice for work, but when she meets the handsome artist Piero Zanetti, suddenly working isn't the only thing on her Italy itinerary.

3. The Tuscan Girl by Angela Petch

If Tuscany has a piece of your heart, this is your go-to book. Twenty-six-year-old Alba heads to the Tuscan village of Rofelle after her fiance is killed in an accident. It's there that she finds a box of World War 2 secrets and a friend in an elderly man with his own painful memories.

4. The Rome Affair by Karen Swan

If your heart belongs to Rome, this charming book is for you. Tourist guide Francesca Hackett crosses paths with Elena Damiani, a woman whose gilded life is so interesting she's working on her memoirs. When a diamond ring belonging to Elena is found, shocking secrets are revealed.

5. The Secret Love Letters of Olivia Moretti by Jennifer Probst

If the Amalfi Coast is where you belong, pick up this book. When the three grieving Moretti sisters find a secret love letter addressed to their late mother, they pack up and head to the Amalfi Coast in search of their mother's mysterious ex-lover.

6. Lake Como by Anita Hughes

If the romance of Lake Come is your style, check this one out. Interior designer Hallie Elliot flees to Lake Como after she finds her fiance in a compromising position with another woman. There she meets Angus, the handsome caretaker of a beautiful estate on Lake Como. But a new beginning for Hallie might not be as easy as she'd like.

7. My Love Affair with Sicily by Margie Miklas

If you long to see Sicily, this one's for you. Second-generation Italian-American Margie Miklas travels to her ancestors' homeland of Sicily for the first time, and takes readers along for the ride.
